"This is the corn field at Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. We had taken a tour and learned all about that terrible battle. When we got to the corn field after the tour, we were struck with the lush peaceful scene. Time passes after wars. This land is healed and productive again.
But after hearing about the battle of the cornfield, and how the soldiers hiding there were mowed down by enemy fire, I couldn't look at a cornfield without seeing that battle in my minds eye. I painted this scene to show the healing that has taken place over time. I used vivid colors to celebrate the new life that grows there now." Elise -
